A Few Thoughts About Today and Tomorrow....

Today is Election Day.

I felt the weight of voting today. We live in a country where we get a vote, and your vote matters.

It feels like a lot is riding on today. I mean countless hours, millions (maybe billions) of dollars, and lot and lots of conversations, debate, and arguments have lead up to this day. In the next few days, we should know who will be President and Vice President for the next 4 years.

I researched, prayed, and voted.

What happens next is out of my hands. But who I am and how I respond to what happens is entirely in my control. No matter who is voted into office, I have made some predetermined decisions about my life. BTW, this is not an exhaustive list, but some things on my heart and mind.

Come Nov. 4th and everyday after:

  • I will love and follow Jesus, no matter the cost. (Romans 1:16)

  • I will preach the Gospel and making disciples. (Matthew 28:19-20)

  • I will love my wife, and make her a priority in my life. (Ephesians 5:25)

  • I will love, nurture, challenge, and raise my boys to the best of my ability. (Psalm 127:3-5)

  • I am committed to friendships that challenge me and make me better. (Proverbs 18:24)

  • I will love and serve my neighbors, no matter who they voted for. (Matthew 22:37-40)

  • I will stand in the gap for the overlooked and oppressed. (Isaiah 1:17)

  • I will pray for and respect those in authority over me. (1 Peter 2:13-17)

  • I will hold fast to my hope in Jesus, who is faithful. (Hebrews 10:23-24)

  • I will choose the good and better way of Jesus. (1 Peter 3:8-22)

  • I am committed to having conversations instead of winning arguments. (James 1:19)

  • I refuse to call what is evil good, and to call what is good evil (Isaiah 5:20).

I continue to believe we are better together, even when we disagree.

Soon we will find out who will win the election based on how America votes.

But the church wins or loses based on how Christ-Followers respond in the days that follow.

So what does your list look like? What decisions could you make ahead of time about how you will respond to what happens in our nation in the coming days?

Grace and Peace,

Adam
